چکیده

Abstract Obesity, cardiovascular disease, and relapse/progression have major impact on prognosis in pediatric brain tumor patients. Cranial MRI is part of routine follow-up. In a cross-sectional study, we analyzed nuchal skinfold thickness (NST) by standardized method performed for follow-up monitoring as novel parameter body composition disease 177 patients (40 WHO grade 1-2 tumors; 31 3-4 106 craniopharyngioma), 53 healthy controls. Associations NST with mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio, caliper-measured thickness, blood pressure were analysed Craniopharyngioma showed higher BMI, when compared controls, whereas these differences not detectable between However, observed waist circumference triceps to high correlations thickness. NST, BMI ratio had predictive value terms increased pressure, multivariate analysis, only was selected the final model resulting an odds 1.25 (1.14-1.379). craniopharyngioma hypothalamic involvement/lesion or gross-total resection, rate degree obesity increased. As play important role after tumor, conclude that could serve useful assessment risk

Nuchal Skinfold Thickness: A Novel Parameter for Assessment of Body Composition in Childhood Craniopharyngioma

CONTEXT Hypothalamic obesity, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and relapse/progression have a major impact on prognosis in childhood-onset craniopharyngioma (CP). We analyzed nuchal skinfold thickness (NST) on magnetic resonance imaging performed for follow-up monitoring as a novel parameter for body composition (BC) and CVD in CP. OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to identify the associa...

Determination of body composition from skinfold thickness: a validation study.

Measurement of body composition is proving increasingly important in clinical nutrition and research. Skinfold thickness is a simple means of estimating body composition which is widely used in children, but there is little information on its validity. There has been a proliferation of equations for estimation of body composition from skinfolds, but some doubt as to their general applicability....

Body composition and prediction equations using skinfold thickness for body fat percentage in Southern Brazilian adolescents

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to: a) determine the nutritional status of Brazilian adolescents, and; b) present a skinfold thickness model (ST) to estimate body fat developed with Brazilian samples, using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) as reference method. METHODS The main study group was composed of 374 adolescents, and further 42 adolescents for the validation group. Weig...

The Relationship between Skinfold Thickness and Body Mass Index in Estimating Body Fat Percentage on Bowen University Students

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a weight-to-height ratio used as a quick and easy guide to obesity classification. BMI of 30 or greater is indicative of excess body fat and has been labelled as increasing the risk of degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Body fat percentage is also assessed through skinfold thickness measurement.. The aim of this study was to estimate the ...

Body composition of anorexia nervosa patients assessed by underwater weighing and skinfold-thickness measurements before and after weight gain.

BACKGROUND Weight restoration is a crucial element in the treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa. Therefore, the validity of different methods for measuring body composition is important. OBJECTIVE We tested the concurrent validity of hydrodensitometry (underwater weighing) and anthropometry (12 skinfold thicknesses) and assessed body composition and subcutaneous fat before and after a r...
